GALAB Bee Project!

Everything is possible. It could be the overriding company motto of GALAB even beyond the broad spectrum of the company’s analyses. The company has already broken new ground with its much-acclaimed ice storage. And that one would like to look beyond one’s own nose, and does so regularly, is shown by the various commitments in the social sector. Thus GALAB donates for regional institutions or supports for example in Paraguay the association Ko’embota — Siedlungs- und Armenhilfe in Paraguay e.V.
And so it came about that the management of GALAB, at a meeting at the end of 2017, called on the employees to submit further proposals. No sooner said than done, Jörg Boeck, among others, though, otherwise in the rehearsal-preparation work: How about an in-house bee-breeding?
Whether as a sign-in time of the much-discussed bee death or as a culinary signal for the internal breakfast break — the suggestion was examined and found to be good, from May 2018 a beekeeper course was arranged away from home, which provides the necessary equipment such as beehives and a decent honey extractor. And then waited in suspense.
In the meantime, the two honey — pardon: bee experts — from GALAB have washed with all the waters of keeping bees, and can talk about everything that has to be considered when building a colony, how to feed bees at all, or what to do with the wax.
In the beginning, there were two bee colonies with 40,000–60,000 bees, each with a queen. In the meantime Jörg Boeck and Dmitrij Lutz have “captured” the third swarm — so there is something like rush hour in the beehives, which are located on the premises of GALAB.
“This project is entirely in our spirit,” says Hans Wunsch, one of the three managing directors and mentor of the bee initiative. “It shows our interest in sustainability.”
Jörg Boeck and his colleague have now harvested 41 kilograms of spring blossoms. Some of it ended up in an unscheduled sensor system in the form of a company breakfast. And after testing on the living palate, it was declared a pleasure.
Although there is no fixed plan for GALAB honey, there is at least one idea: “We could sell the honey and give the proceeds to a good cause. “
True to the GALAB motto. Always open for new ideas and ways to get there. Because, as mentioned, everything is possible.
